About

I am a violin maker and restorer.

I began studying violin making in 1972 and graduated from The Violin Making School of America in 1976.

I worked in several major shops before becoming independent in 1981, focusing on repair and restoration.

Over the years, I’ve worked on a wide range of instruments and a
wide range of players—from everyday student instruments, their players and parents,
to fine historical works with players to match.

Why This Site Exists

This site grew out of a simple observation:

Many players struggle not because they lack effort,
but because they lack a clear way to understand what they are hearing.

The Hearing Series is meant to provide that clarity.

What You’ll Find Here

This is not a method.

It is a way of organizing perception.

You’ll find:

• ways of listening
• simple exercises
• practical observations from the bench

All intended to help you understand your instrument more directly.

Closing

The goal is not to add complexity.

It’s to make things more clear.
